Since we launched in February 2010, we have grown tremendously. In the past year alone, staff numbers have risen four fold, new customer enquiries are up 1500% and order volumes have increased by 500%. To help us achieve this, we have continually been investing in our website and a great customer experience. It’s worked, and we’ve experienced a huge surge in customers visiting our site, mainly from Google. This spike in visits is thanks to advertising and investment. For the last 30 day period (12th March – 11th April 2013) we’ve seen an 800% increase in website visitors over the same period from 2 years ago in 2011. The future looks bright at 1Gas and we’re growing day by day. We’re excited about new services and marketing initiatives in the near future.
The gas supplier SSE (previously Scottish & Southern Energy) is in the news headlines today following a large fine which has been issued by the national gas and electricity regulator OFGEM (The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets).

The trading year of 1Gas was completed at the end of March and we’re pleased the provisional results. We’re still a young business but showing strong growth each year. In our third full year trading, we have continued to achieve consecutive improvement on the previous years. Turnover in the last financial year was 394% higher than 2011-2012. Gross profit also went up and rose by an impressive 388% for the same period. The outlook is positive and we expect to see continued growth in the next financial period thanks to our investments in marketing and new staff.
As 1Gas continues to grow, we are always looking for more ways to reach greater number of customers and more easily communicate the benefits of using us. We’re a friendly personal team who strive to deliver top notch service. To help us deliver our message, we’ve commissioned a new marketing campaign which should launch in the next month. We’re impressed with the previews and can’t wait to see the final version which we will be sharing on our website.
Could we be running out of gas? The unprecedented cold UK March is having all kinds of impacts: tourism, farming, the economy, and no doubt, gas supplier profits too. The unpredictable British weather strikes again. Only a year ago at this time of year, Britain was bathed summer-like temperatures in the low 20s celsius. Britons were on beaches soaking up the sun enjoying the end of winter, even in northern Scotland, where all-time records were broken. By contrast, mother nature is creating a very different March in 2013.
We’re pleased to welcome a new member of staff to our team. Dan Carter joins us a Gas Connections Consultant assisting customers with all type of gas pipe and meter requests. Dan is originally from London, but more recently has relocated from the Isle of Wight to Sussex. In his spare time Dan plays football for a local team, and enjoys spending time with his young family.
1Gas is 3 years old after celebrating our birthday on 16th February. We’re very excited about entering our fourth year trading. We’ve seen strong growth which is continuing and it makes us very proud given the current tough economic conditions. Many thanks to all our customers.
People in southern counties of England including Kent and Sussex are reporting an over powering smell of gas and fuel oil in the air today. The source of the problem is coming from Northern France. It appears to be an accidental gas leak at a factory in Rouen, France which is causing the awful smell to drift across the English Channel on the wind. The source of the gas is at a Lubrizol Corporation (www.lubrizol.com) plant in the Normandy region of Northern France and workers are trying to neutralise the stench. The company produces car engine lubricants.
1Gas was launched by Richard Hearne in February 2010. Since then we’ve enjoyed continued growth and success. Last year in 2012, our team trebled in size and we want to tell you a little bit more about who we are.
