There are many UK gas suppliers since deregulation of the gas market in the last twenty years or so. This provides welcome competition for customers who seek better service or prices. In this article, the 1Gas team have written a short guide on the different UK commercial and business gas suppliers, and a brief overview of each company. British Gas In 1973, the British Gas Corporation was formed and in 1986, the government privatised the company. Its shares were subsequently floated on the UK stock exchange in London. Centrica has also owned many other famous brands including the AA, Goldfish and Halfords. British Gas is widely recognised as the UK’s largest supplier of gas and electricity. Since day one, customer service has been key to the success of 1Gas. It’s a cliché, but it’s true. We haven’t always got it right, and where we’ve been less than perfect we’ve learnt from it. We believe that customer service should be every part of a company’s existence and in every communication with colleagues, customers, suppliers or engineers. We strive to be a friendly, personal company that will go beyond the call of duty for customers wherever possible. In 2012, we received 19 testimonials which are on this website. In 2013 in the first 3-4 months we’ve already had 33 additional testimonials. We’ve just crossed the 50 barrier today (52 to be exact) and we’re really pleased with this result. In this situation, we argue that words speak louder than actions thanks to the many kind customers who have spent the time speaking their opinion of us. Some of the reviews we’ve received for our gas pipe and meter connection services include: ▪ ‘Exceptional service’ ▪ ‘Could not have dealt with my order more professionally, nor in a friendlier manner’ ▪ ‘Second to none for customer service’ ▪ ‘Everything went like clockwork from start to finish. Very professional, helpful, […]

A culmination of factors is creating problems for Britain’s household debt levels to electricity and gas suppliers. It’s recently been estimated that money owed to energy companies by domestic consumers could total more than 600 million pounds, with perhaps as many as four to five million owing a balance [an increase of around 6% from last year] and struggling to keep on top of bills. The amount owed has increased by around 25% on the previous year.
Gas prices have finally shown signs of retreat after the pressures of a difficult winter took their toll on UK reserves. Read this post to find out more.
Fitting a new gas meter is a skilled job due to natural gas being a dangerous substance; It is highly flammable and explosive. Just one small spark can be enough to cause huge damage and harm to life.
Since we launched in February 2010, we have grown tremendously. In the past year alone, staff numbers have risen four fold, new customer enquiries are up 1500% and order volumes have increased by 500%. To help us achieve this, we have continually been investing in our website and a great customer experience. It’s worked, and we’ve experienced a huge surge in customers visiting our site, mainly from Google. This spike in visits is thanks to advertising and investment. For the last 30 day period (12th March – 11th April 2013) we’ve seen an 800% increase in website visitors over the same period from 2 years ago in 2011. The future looks bright at 1Gas and we’re growing day by day. We’re excited about new services and marketing initiatives in the near future.

There are many factors that affect the cost of a new gas connection. They include, but are not limited to: Location Size of gas supply required Number of appliances at site Pressure in the gas mains Distance from the mains to the gas meter position Complexity of the works Health and safety issues Number of engineers required, and more Example of costing Below are costing estimates for a domestic and non-domestic setting: A typical domestic gas supply of less than 40 metres would be around £300-1000 excluding VAT. This cost is normally heavily subsidised based on certain criteria. A non-domestic / commercial / business gas connection of around 10-15 metres could be priced around £1500-£2500 excluding VAT. Please note that these prices are for guidance only and factors such as geographic region can affect costs on a site by site basis. What could increase the cost? Factors that could significantly increase the cost of a gas connection quote include large users of gas (perhaps 1000 kW (kilowatts) or more) and those sites where the mains are more than 100 metres away. For sites located in busy city centres, two or three way traffic management systems are often […]
